Remembering John Borthwick (1948-2022)
We're very sad to announce the passing of our friend John Borthwick.
John was one of the founding members of SIA and remained a trustee for much of the time since. As a past chair, John made a massive contribution to SIA and helped us develop into the organisation we are today. He also served as Secretary to the Multidisciplinary Association of SCI Professionals (MASCIP) for many years, making sure the voice of SCI people was heard by the clinicians who provide our health services.
His passion for care and support led to him co-founding the company Complete Care, whilst he continued to advocate for SIA members with their NHS Continuing Healthcare cases long after he stepped down from our board of trustees.
John will be sorely missed by SIA and the wider SCI community. A full tribute to him will appear in the summer issue of FORWARD but for now we will end with words from former SIA chair and trustee, Michelle Howard.
‘I served for many years with John as a trustee of SIA and I was saddened to hear the news that he has recently passed away. He was very much a larger-than-life character, known to everyone, who cared passionately about the work of SIA and the inequalities in society. He had an eye for the detail and very little escaped its attention! He will be sadly missed.’
