SCI specialist clinicians

Our team of spinal cord injury (SCI) specialist clinicians is here to ensure every person living with SCI gets the very best care wherever they receive it. The team is made up of SCI specialist nurses and an occupational therapist with many years of combined experience and a unique understanding of SCI.

The team helps hundreds of people with SCI every year, offering advice to them and their relatives, helping them complete vitally important documents and ensuring that carers are trained to the highest standards.

SCI specialist clinicians

Sadly, we know that few general healthcare professionals have the specialist knowledge or experience needed to appropriately care for people with SCI. That’s why we help people create personalised care plans that effectively communicate their unique care needs. We can help you create:

    • A personal care plan. This document outlines your typical daily care needs and is helpful if you are going through a care assessment. You can print this from our website to complete yourself or with the help of a family member or carer.
    •  Your emergency care plan (ECP). This is a potentially life-saving document that is completed by one of our SCI nurse specialists because it needs clinical validation. Your emergency care plan details your essential SCI care needs considering bladder, bowel, skin and respiration management and, where appropriate, autonomic dysreflexia. If you are admitted to hospital in an emergency, your plan will let the clinical team treating you know precisely what it is you need to stay safe and well.

Add your county to the search box on this page and click submit to find the SCI specialist clinician for your area and get your personalised emergency care plan.

Support coordinators

As your first main point of contact with SIA, your support coordinator offers a positive insight into life beyond injury. As well as hope for the future, they’ll impart practical advice on topics as diverse as managing continence, transferring safely, getting back to work, raising a family, driving, holidays, and being an active member of society.

We’ve split the country into ten regions to ensure that everyone gets the network of support they need within their local community.
