Why choose us

Established in 1875, Higgs LLP is an award-winning Midlands law firm with offices in the heart of the Black Country.

Bringing together lawyers across many specialisms, we strive to constantly think from a client’s point of view. To understand your issues and respond to your needs. And in this way, we can make a real difference to you and your family.

Our approach

We recognise the challenges that clients and their families face in the aftermath of a spinal cord injury. With this in mind, we help clients rebuild their lives and get the best results possible. Our objective is to help you lead as full and as active a lifestyle as you want.

We give proactive support from the outset. We believe that early intervention is the best way to minimise disruption to your life, especially during such a challenging time.

Our services

We’re committed to helping you achieve the best possible results. And securing the best financial settlement to provide security for the future.  Our lawyers will meet with you or your family free of charge, either at home or in hospital, and carry out a comprehensive assessment of your claim. If you instruct us, we’ll act on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis.

We work with industry-leading case managers, consultants and therapists  to support all of your needs

We recognise that local NHS services cannot meet every aspect of treatment a seriously-injured person needs. Particularly in the longer term. That’s why we often work closely with the NHS to supplement the treatment already provided.

Our ultimate aim is to help our clients rebuild their lives following a spinal cord injury. We have a passion for rehabilitation. And we support our clients by getting the funding needed to get fast, private rehabilitation. We work with industry-leading case managers, consultants and therapists  to support all of your needs.

The advantages for our spinal injury clients include:

  • Proactive approach to planning for early discharge from hospital
  • An early clinical assessment of rehabilitation needs
  • Early access to interim payments when liability is accepted
  • Securing the best rehabilitation and treatment, both now and in the longer term

Client A’s story

Our client was a driver of a vehicle involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. As a result, his vehicle left the road and hit a tree. The man, who is in his early 30s, sustained an incomplete spinal cord injury at level T12/L1. This left him with significant mobility issues, incontinence and moderate-severity spasms. Liability is presently disputed, but we’re working with the compensating insurer to try and resolve the issue which may ultimately require us to issue court proceedings. As soon as liability is resolved we will apply for an interim payment to facilitate rehabilitation. We’ll also help him to access intensive neuro-physiotherapy, and support him in finding single-level accommodation.

Client B’s story

Our client sustained an incomplete cervical spinal cord injury including C6/C7 spinal vertebral fractures and L1 to L4 spinal vertebral fractures, in addition to a traumatic brain injury.

Following the accident, our client was transferred to a neurological treatment centre for treatment and assessment. Having secured an admission of liability in addition to a large interim payment, we have appointed a case manager who is helping put in place a comprehensive package of private treatment.

The client’s home is currently being adapted to meet long-term needs, which will include a ground floor extension, hoists, a wet room and widening access to other areas of the property. Given the severity of the injuries, a 24-hour package of care will be needed upon discharge.
