Energy price cap latest
After already rising significantly in April of this year, the energy price cap is going to be raised again in October.

This means that energy bills are going to be far higher than anything that anybody in the UK has previously experienced.
This is particularly concerning for spinal cord injured (SCI) people who often face higher energy bills for several reasons including more time spent at home or greater sensitivity to cold temperatures. We know that disabled people are more likely than others to be living in fuel poverty, as well as often having additional outgoings such as large care costs, house adaptations and increased transport costs.
We’re asking for the government to take much bolder action to ease the financial situation for SCI people immediately and over the coming months. Without greater intervention, we are facing a social catastrophe, whereby many disabled people simply will not be able to pay for the energy which they require throughout the winter.
Until bolder action is taken by the government however, there is only limited help available to spinal cord injured people facing ever increasing fuel bills.
Therefore, we have created a fact sheet so that our members can check that they are receiving all of the discounts to which they are entitled and know where to find any additional help if needed.
Legal challenge against the energy price cap
Good Law Project, Fuel Poverty Action and the Highlands and Islands Affordable Homes Warmth Group are planning to sue the energy regulator Ofgem, over its failure to mitigate the impact of rising energy bills on consumers.
Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) have also asked to be involved with this challenge and will be providing an overview statement spelling out that for many disabled people not being able to afford their energy is more than choosing between eating and heating but actually choosing between living and dying in a wide range of circumstances.
Read more about this and how you can support this challenge on the DPAC website.
