Client success story

Meet EK, an exemplary figure of resilience and determination. At the tender age of 13, EK had an infection in her spine, which resulted in a C4 spinal cord injury. This life-altering event, however, didn’t impede her spirit or ambition. With unwavering determination and a zest for life, EK continued her education at a university in London, followed by securing full-time employment.

Today, she works for an organisation that promotes making airports more accessible for those requiring disability access. This is not only her job but a testament to her enduring spirit, advocating for accessibility and inclusivity in every facet of life.

The spinal injury experience at Abbots Care has played a pivotal role in EK’s journey. Our team of dedicated care workers provide EK with round-the-clock support, including personal care tasks and assistance with everyday tasks such as work and social activities.

At Abbots Care, we understand that each individual’s needs are unique, and we value the input of our clients in our recruitment process. Our tailored recruitment process ensures that we meet all of EK’s candidate criteria. This includes a keen awareness of her health status, with care workers trained to identify signs and symptoms that could potentially be detrimental to her health.

In addition, we involve our clients throughout the recruitment process. This includes arranging meet and greets with potential new care workers. We believe this collaborative approach enables us to better match our care workers with our clients, ensuring their comfort and satisfaction.

Moreover, our care workers understand the importance of their own health in relation to EK’s wellbeing. They are vigilant in detecting if they are unwell and take necessary precautions to prevent any health issues from being passed onto EK. This comprehensive approach ensures the utmost care and well-being of our clients.

EK’s story is a testament to the dedication and expertise at Abbots Care, highlighting our commitment to providing high-quality care to individuals with spinal injuries. Despite the 24-hour support she requires, EK leads a full and fulfilling life, thanks to the support of her care team at Abbots Care.

We are proud to be a part of EK’s journey, helping her navigate through life with a spinal cord injury, and are committed to continue providing her with the best possible care. EK’s story is not only a success story for Abbots Care but an inspiring tale of resilience and triumph over adversity.

Testimonial

After a car accident many years ago, it became clear that I would never be able to live independently. As a young man, I did not want my disability to hinder me from living life to the fullest. Although being paralysed limits what I can do, having a live-in care worker has opened doors to many activities I enjoy, such as going to the local pub with friends or using my in-house gym. Luckily, my family and friends live close by, but I do not want to solely rely on them. Having a live-in care worker available 24/7 allows me to be independent and enjoy life to the fullest. It was important for me to choose carers I could relate to and share similar interests with since we spend most of our time together.”
